Mesa Model Yacht Club

The Mesa Model Yacht Club, (MMYC) is a nonprofit organization devoted to the hobby of building and sailing model boats. The Club supports three types of model boating; Sailboats, Scale Boats, and Electric Speed Boats. These three types of boats allows members a wide exposure of model boating, and to assist the members in their interests in a safe, non-polluting hobby.

A Brief Description...

Sail Boats

If technical aspects and tactics of sailing is wanted, sailboats have it! The Club actively supports four classes of racing sail boats: the Victoria, US12, 36/600, and the Marblehead.

  • Victoria Class
A great class for the beginning skipper to start with! The Victoria sailboat kit can be found in most hobby stores with the price of around $200 (this includes the radio and servos). Within a day the Victoria can be assembled and on the water sailing!
  • US12 Class
The US 12 Meter is a new one design class to AMYA.  They cost about the same as a deluxe Victoria  ($400 to $500)   The hull comes in one piece fiber glass.  They have a drop in 10 pound weight.  Wood or aluminum masts are allowed but not carbon fiber.  Your choice of deck material, wood or fiberglass.  Easy to finish kits are available which include sails for $399.00.  Completed boats weigh 16 pounds.  Hull is 46 inches long, 9 inches wide.
  • 36/600 Class
The 36/600 Class is a developmental sailboat that allows any skipper the challenge to put technology and sailing skills together for speed. The 36/600's hull length is 36 inches long with 600 inches of sails. It can be built from scratch or from a kit, depending on what the builder wants to do. The average price for a 36/600 model yacht is from $600 to $1,400.
  • Marblehead Class
The Marblehead (also known as a 50/800) is another developmental sailboat that allows the skipper the challenge to put technology and sailing skills together for speed. The Marblehead's hull length is 50 inches long with 800 inches of sails. It can be built from scratch or from a kit, it depends on what the builder wants to do. The average price for a Marblehead model yacht is from $800 to $3,500.

Scale Boats

For the members who likes to get down to the "nuts and bolts" of building model boats to scale, this is the division. Scale boating offers the fun and challenge of building and sailing anything from a small tug boat to a 9 foot battleship! Boating events range from navigating a pre-set course, to blind conning.

Electric Speed Boats

Electric Speed Boats consist of a one motor, 6 cell craft called Crackerbox. The Crackerbox kit can be found in most hobby stores with the price of around $250 (this includes the radio and servos). This boat will give it's owner all the speed, challenge, and rooster tails they need.
